speechgirl! Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Can someone tell me a little bit about the University of Montana?! I've been accepted, and I'm really excited about it. The reason I applied is because I was very intrigued by the Big Sky Aphasia Lab. Working with Aphasia patients is a strong interest of mine at the moment, and I would love to learn about more of the great aspects of this program. I am from out of state, and it is not possible for me to visit any time before April 15th. One thing that I am a bit concerned about is the fact that its rank is not published in the U.S. News Best Grad School Rankings. I am not too concerned with school rankings since you end up with the same degree no matter which school you attend, but I am curious as to why the university did not want to publish its ranking.
rickthesheriff Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Hi! I also was accepted to University of Montana. I will not be attending and unfortunately do not know a ton about the program, but I can tell you that this is a relatively new program. Therefore I would not be concerned that it is unranked. I believe it just recently became officially accredited. (Before 2014 it was under a provisional accreditation for programs less than five years old). The most recent rankings are from 2012, so at the time perhaps not enough was known about the program to give it an official ranking. From what I've heard it's a fantastic program (and Montana would be an amazing place to live!!). Congrats and good luck speechgirl! 1
kdelainey Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 That has been my biggest concern, too! I have been accepted there as well and was interested in the adult and aphasia focus, but cannot seem to find very much outside information regarding the program. I read somewhere that their first graduate class since 1989 was in 2011 so it makes sense why they are not currently ranked. I wish someone had more information!
