Bedlam Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Has anyone heard anything from the department? I had everything in by their January 15th soft deadline but have not heard a peep since. Really hoping they do not wait until after break to make decisions.
CharlesZhang91 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hey it's me, the person replied to you on the results board. Could you kindly share something about this program???
Bedlam Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 The reasons that I am interested in this program is because I want to teach, and I tied to the geographic area because of family responsibilities. Obviously, Indiana has a higher ranking, but UW Milwaukee holds that their extremely low NRC ranking was solely due to a data entry error when the rankings were being compiled. As I understand both programs, my best guess for you would be that Indiana would be the better place to prepare for research, while Milwaukee tends to be very good at placing teachers/instructors. I still have not heard back, can you give me any idea of what kind of grades/test scores got you offered funding there?
CharlesZhang91 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 strongly suggest that you should contact the director Prof Scott Adams. He has been helpful. My background is a little bit complicated: Top 6 undergrad from China, majored in law and finance. GPA 3.5+ MBA in finance from a Top 15 undergrad ranking school in the US GPA 3.6. GRE 320+ World Health working experience.. Not much research though, just some undergrad papers and grad course papers. I think I may go to Indiana at the end......My concern is though the Indiana program will confer a PHD through Indiana University Graduate School, I will need to stay with the IU shcool of Medicine at IUPUI for a while(Due to the health econ concentration problem). I don't know how others think about this... But IU said if I wanted to change the research concentration, I can spend all 5 years at Bloomington after the approval of the dean of the graduate school..... Now it seems a little bit tough for me since I don't really enjoy reseaching to be honest with you....
Bedlam Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 At any US University research will be a large component of your graduate studies. Even in my Master's Econ program, I had to write a couple hundred pages of both empirical work and literature reviews. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
LoveMyself Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I recently got accepted to the program for the Fall semester, however I heard no words about funding. Do you know if they have given out all their funding or waht?
