bindlestiff Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hey, I know I've PM'd a few people on here about UW-Madison, but I figured having our own thread would be helpful. If you've been accepted (or waitlisted) at Madison: • Did you attend the open house this Saturday, March 14th? If not, have you visited Madison? UW? Goodnight Hall? • Where are you from and where did you do your undergrad? • Is UW-Madison your first choice and/or are you definitely accepting? • What are the factors influencing your choice? • If you've decided to go, what are your housing plans? I'll go first. • I went to the open house this weekend and was really impressed. Loved the city, the campus, and the program. • I'm from Kansas and am about to graduate from KU. • I was accepted to KU's program, which is really good and much cheaper for me, but I have fallen pretty hard for UW-Madison. I think it would be better for me to go somewhere else for grad school. I definitely think I'd benefit a lot more in every way (except financially) than if I stayed here at KU. • I toured this place called The French House, but I think I'd like to live somewhere less undergrad-ish, and possibly room with another person or other people in the program.
bindlestiff Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Feeling pretty lonely over here... come on guys! Nobody else is even thinking about going to UW-Madison?
gingembre Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Hello! I am from Wisconsin and did my undergrad at UW-Madison (French major). Currently, I am taking classes at Madison in communication sciences and disorders (so I could apply to grad programs). I’ve had a great experience doing my post-bacc here and that was why I applied to the grad program. I attended the open house and that basically reinforced my desire to go to Madison - I felt it was a low-key, warm atmosphere; yet with a definite emphasis on learning and becoming a well-trained SLP. At this point I am fairly certain I will accept. Regarding living situation - it’s tough. I’m looking for a studio or one bedroom and it’s slim pickings - sorry to cause worry! I’m a bit persnickety though and I want to live close enough to campus to be able to walk to class. However, I found the apartment I have at the beginning of last July (and it’s been fine, good location, rent not outrageous), so there will definitely be places available. I guess I was expecting more options with starting my search in March, but that has not been the case. (The French House - great place, although I can see why you might want to go a different route being in grad school. Their food is excellent; I took a class there as an undergrad - 1 credit and you ate lunch and spoke French - best “class” ever! I would definitely recommend trying them for lunch or dinner.) bindlestiff 1
bindlestiff Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Hi, thanks for responding! I regret not making time to talk to the other students at the open house - I had so many questions for the grad students that I didn't really end up meeting any of my potential cohort. In the time since I made this thread I've decided to live in the French House after all! I'm just committing for the first semester so that I can reevaluate and figure something else out if I need to. It's a great way to keep/improve my French - I'd really like to get back to my level of proficiency from when I studied abroad. Do you know anyone who has lived there? Should we make a Facebook group? Apparently you need two people so that there's at least one member other than the creator/admin (makes sense). I'm really excited to start meeting everyone! I wonder if we'll end up with any guys, since there weren't any at the open house.
Kay. Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I will most likely be attending- let's start a facebook group! Kay. and bindlestiff 2

KateSLP Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Hi, everyone! My name is Kate and I am definitely coming to Wisconsin-Madison in the fall! I am joining the Facebook page now! Can't wait to meet everyone! Let me know if you are looking for a roommate! I'm really neat, active, and like to wake up early. I'm from Cincinnati and go to Ohio State so I don't know much about Madison.
