Hello all,

I have heard from some PhD students in the ECE department at Virginia Tech that when an application gets recommended by a prospective professor then the admissions committee is going to recommend the application for admission too; especially, if the applicant has an external scholarship. That because they have a huge department where they accept about 250 applicant each academic year. In their website, they strongly encourage applicants to contact with their prospective professors early and let them know about their research. Also, to get recommended by a professor is very tough.

Is that true? If not, do you know how decision work in the ECE department at Virginia Tech?

Thank you,
