duporis Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Here is my problem. I am doing a Phd at my current University. The grades came up very well (As etc). The qualifiers (comprehensive exams) are giving me a headache. The program is new , and was so compressed that in the first year, you had to do the Courses, write the term papers for the various courses, end of first semester, write the comps for the minor, and last semester do the directed readings, write a preliminary thesis proposal, which would be graded and then write the qualifiers for the major. I would say it was really an academic roller coaster to me. First attempt at the minor comps I failed. Did a rewrite and they say it is even worse than the one before. I am planning to move on to another university and my grades are transferrable, but feel, I should have audience with the dean before that. Is that a good idea? The other thing, how then do I get letters of recommendation, if I stir the pot? I feel I am not academically stimulated any more at this University. Any similar experiences out there? I am in the process of weighing my options, right now.
