My stats are as follows:- GPA: 8.97/10 (rank 6 out of 74) GRE: quant=800, verbal=780 awa=5.0 TOEFL: 119/120 Dept Applying to: Electrical Engineering Field of Interest: Information Theory, Error Control Coding and Applications in Wireless Networks Research: Summer 09 Under Prof. B Sundar Rajan, Dept of Electrical Communication Engg., Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in Error Control Coding. Work Experience: Summer internship under the countrywide agent for Alcatel Lucent Telecommunication Switching Systems Extra-curricular: Head of Literary,Stage, Debate Club, Member of Institution of Engineers. I will be applying for an MS to the following colleges: 1.Stanford 2.Michigan Ann Arbor 3.U Illinois Urbana Champaign 4.Georgia Institute of Technology 5.Carnegie Mellon University 6.Texas A &M 7.Arizona State University 8.Penn State University 9. UC Berkeley I am willing to pay tuition, although aid would be welcome. Could anyone please advise me on which colleges I should apply to/evaluate my chances? Thanks!
zilch Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I think you'll be a competitive candidate for all of those schools. Stanford and Berkeley are probably the 2 schools with the stiffest competition but given your profile you should definitely try. I am currently a grad student in EE at UIUC. I'm not sure what the policy is at other schools but most of the graduate students in ECE here are funded either at TAs or RAs. Those assistantships carry a tuition waiver and a stipend.
