kmeredithc Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I am applying for a PhD in psychology this coming fall and have a question regarding faculty match. Some schools I'm applying to have both clinical and counseling psychology PhD programs with different faculty for each (one of these schools for example, is SUNY Albany). I really do think a counseling psychology PhD might be more up my alley than clinical, but I like the clinical faculty's research better than the counseling faculty. Does anyone know if it's possible to apply to the counseling psych program but in my statement of purpose apply to/choose a clinical POI? Thanks!
Jay's Brain Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 That depends if the faculty are cross-appointed, so that varies by the school. Check to see if that's the case. The good thing is that for some programs, the counselling and clinical research overlaps quite a bit. If that's the case, perhaps you can make the case for it, but, again, check with the schools.
