Obtaining Funding or stay put.

Hello all,

I've been accepted to a great Doctoral program at PSU but i've deferred admission until next year because of financial reasons(ummm..the recession). I want to get some form of funding before I take the student loan route but I need help in my search. I'm planning on emailing a few people at PSU to ask that they keep an eye out for me if something comes along BUT I'm kind of stumped on what i should write. Any thoughts?

I currently have a position at a University in NJ but i'm not that interested in any of the programs here & I'll have to retake the GRE's....not happy about that part! So many decisions to make & i'm stumped.
