ISSUE POOL QUESTION: As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

My Response: please be as thorough and as critical as you can with grading. Please and thank you!

Technology is constantly improving and changing with time which also mirrors the evolution of the human mind. Humans will still be able to think for themselves, maybe even more so, with the increase of technology in society.

The improvements in technology arose from new ways people have thought of to solve problems. This in of itself is a statement that supports that humans are imaginative and creative to develop new technology. Humans are beings that are problem solvers and thinkers in nature and will always think of new ways to improve their lives through the use of technology. With newer technology also arises more innovations which can also cause newer problems which in turn humans need to find solutions to.

For example, electricity was once a novel idea. When electricity was a newly discovered technology, more inventions arose from this one specific event. Electricity became a way to solve the problem of inconsistent light sources and from there the light bulb was born. With a constant light source, people were now able to work, learn, and/or read at night. People were then more likely to gain more knowledge by simply solving the simple problem of not having sight past daytime

Keeping with the innovation of electricity, it also begat more technology other than light. How people gathered food and made food was extremely different without electricity. Now we can grow more, harvest more, store it longer, and make it at home faster all because of tractors, refrigerators, and microwaves. Now that humans are spending less time with the preoccupation with the need for food; we are able to spend this time with creativity. We can even take this one step further by the improvements in cleaning technology such as washing machines and vacuums. We are spending less and less time with household chores which leaves us more time that we can spend learning, reading, and working. More time to gather information, makes us more knowledgeable, philosophical, and creative.

Finally, even with these problems solved, new technology can also create new problems and new problems will require new solutions. As already stated, humans are naturally inclined to solve problems. With the invention of the computer came the invention of artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is such a broad technology that requires so much more research and development. Scientists and researchers are constantly innovating new ways to use AI in different aspects of our lives: from the mundane Roomba cleaner to robotic surgical hands controlled by neurosurgeons.

The history of influx of technology clearly shows that humans are not only solving problems, but are also creating new innovations. The benefits of technology does not necessarily make human minds dull and unimaginative; in fact it does the opposite. We now have more time and more knowledge for creativity.
