rustytrix Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 i am a prospective phd applicant interested in the policy/economic implications of the privatization of the defense/armaments industry .. things like how it affects domestic/foreign policy and so on. my interests are NOT necessarily restricted to the US "market" only. what are some of the top departments (within top 15 or 20 according to US News rankings, Link: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... s/rankings) doing extensive research in this field?
polisciphd Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Unfortunately, you are going to have a hard time finding anyone in a Political Science department doing this kind of thing, is much more of a "policy" question. The only one I would say that would even be close is MIT (they actually have a security studies subdiscipline).
Penelope Higgins Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Peter Singer wrote his dissertation on this topic about 10 years ago at Harvard. He is now at Brookings, not in an academic job - which, as I understand, was his preference. You might see who he worked with at Harvard and apply there (I am assuming it was Steve Rosen, but I could be wrong.)
LordNorth Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Anna Stavrianakis at the University of Sussex has written on this, too.
bees Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 They only person who springs to mind in Andrew Bacevich at Boston University.
