apalmer979 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I am a Psych undergrad going into my last year of school. I am interested in applying to Clinical programs and am wondering if my GRE scores are even competitive. If not should I be taking them again, or even consider taking a year off and then take them again? Quant: 160 Verbal: 155 Writing: 5 Interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks
Jay's Brain Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 As with all elements of your application, the sum is greater than the parts. Your references, SOP, experiences, and academic grades are all considered alongside your GRE scores. Normally speaking, the scores you indicated are decent. As you are planning to pursue clinical psychology, which tends to be one of the more competitive areas to get into, you may want to improve your GRE scores if you do not think the other elements of your applications can overcome that. Aiming for 160 for both Verbal and Quantitative is usually a safe bet. You should also ask for historical data from the programs you're interested in submitting an application so that you know what traditional acceptances require. Good luck! hopefulclinicalpsych 1
Rose Tyler Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Most clinical programs post averages from past cycles on their website. Check out the schools you're interested in applying to and look for admissions data. Going by the stats of programs I'm looking at, your quantitative is solid but your verbal might be a little low. But like Jay's Brain said, GRE score is not the only factor. gellert 1
