Destined007 Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 "To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position." When analyzing the cardinal aspects of a society, culture and lifestyle are the distinguishing parameters in comparison between multifarious groups of people that exist in the society. By definition, society can be described as the population with similar ideologies. Therefore a Pakistani society can be considered as the entire population of Pakistan, and the same hold true for other countries. In order to grasp the lucid understanding of one's society it is important to analyze it with stupendous extent. Because majority of a country's populous lives in the major cities, they are inevitably the first to be put under consideration. However, it is also conceivable that rural population of a country might have cultures that go off tangent to the mainstream culture, in some cases by huge margins. Therefore, in order to comprehend the essential aspects of a society, both major and rural cities should be examined simultaneously. Pakistan is undoubtedly a multicultural society, with five developed cities. Yet these cities don't fully reflect the cultural diversity in the country because there are places in the extreme north and west where various tribes strives with lifestyles anew. While the urban population rest in a permanent, magnificent apartment of theirs and indulge in foods with fine delicacies, tribesmen on the other hand sleep in sordid, makeshift tents and eat simply what is available at the moment. The cultures across the country can vary so immensely that making judgments after merely analyzing the major cities will be inevitably biased. Studying the major cities only, however, will at least provide an estimate on how the society generally functions because of their large population. There is also incessant exodus of people from different parts of the countries, having distinct cultures, into the major cities. If both the born inhabitants and immigrants are a part of the sample under consideration then the study of the major cities is sufficient without any need to regard for the other parts of the country. All in all, a more precise conclusion can only be drawn if all aspects of the community are considered. The most suitable option will be to examine all the cities, no matter how small they are, in order to understand the important aspects of the society.
