Yasir Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Please evaluate my essay and give me suggestions to improve it as i am weak in writing.Issue Task: People's behavior is largely determined by forces not of their own making. Response: Humans are social animal and affected by the society; our character, attitude and behaviour are shaped by not our society but our surrounding and social circle as well. In a particular society and social circle the attitude of any single person is the average attitude and behavior of the over all social circle. Not only the social attitude which includes the speaking style, behaviour of peoples towards us shape our self but other forces including economic condition, weather and country geographical location also affects us. For example people living in a cool region are softer in their attitude than to those living in the hot region. People who face poverty in their whole life or does not have enough wealth to live an elite life i.e. have good food, good clothes and exposure of different cultures are more prone towards corruption of wealth and material resources. Its doesn’t mean the more poorly you are the more venal you are but it enhances the chances of doing so. Religion is the main force in any culture and society which contributes a lot to set the social attitude and behaviour of human being. For example Islam teach the Muslims to behave kindly towards others regardless of age, nationality, cast, wealth status etc. which leads towards the Muslims to more kind attitude towards others human fellow. Judicial systems of any country if not provide the justice to its citizen, it will provoke the more criminal attitude of the people in that particular country and a very obvious example of it is the country like Pakistan where people easily break the signal, does not care to thorough garbage on the streets, does not hesitate to thief a money because of the loose check of our criminal and justice system which is failed to provide the victims to his right and to criminal a punish. Education is the main force which teach us patience, ability of right judgement and a very kind, good attitude. Education is the most inspiring and shaping force of our society which create the intellectual to the kindest social worker who works for the betterment of our society. Just not these external forces which are not our product of our self makes us but our internal feelings, desired for gain and achieving something, our thinking ability produces our self making attitude and behaviour. External forces which are not product of us like religion, education, judicial system, attitude of our circle and society shapes our personality and behaviour but not only these are, our own wills, desires, thinking and intellect contributes as well to make the whole personality of ourself. ArgumentTask: The following appeared in a memorandum from the owner of Movies Galore, a chain of video rental stores. “In order to reverse the recent decline in our profits, we must reduce operating expenses at Movies Galore’s ten video rental stores. Since we are famous for our special bargains, raising our rental prices is not a viable way to improve profits. Last month our store in downtown Marston significantly decreased its operating expenses by closing at 6:00 P.M. rather than 9:00 P.M. and by reducing its stock by eliminating all movies released more than five years ago. Therefore, in order to increase profits without jeopardizing our reputation for offering great movies at low prices, we recommend implementing similar changes in our other nine Movies Galore stores.” Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation. Response: The argument that by reducing the operating expenses in nine movies Galore stores to increase the profit is not compelling and has many flaws. Firstly, it does not explained by reducing the operating expenses will increase the profit. It may decrease the profit, it is not ensured in the argument it will increase. For example to reduce the operating expenses Marston store is closed at 6:00 Pm but if most of the people rent the movies between 6:00pm and 9:00pm then it will not increase but further decrease the profit. So, this must be explained that people at that does not rent movie between this time. Another way to reduce the operating expenses is by reducing the stocks which contain more than five years old movies and this will create the same problem. If people mostly rent these movies and now these movies are not available in the store then this store is further declining its customers which will result not more profit but instead more loss. So, it’s must be ensure that people are not really interested in these old movies and therefore these movies are useless. Secondly, if Marston has reduced its operating expenses by closing at 6:00 pm and by reducing its stock of old movies then by implementing this think other stores can do the same. For example, other store may be closing already at 6:00 pm and before it i.e. it may not be possible for other store to close further down to their time. Also, other stores may already don’t have the stock of five year old movies. Therefore, by implementing the same thing to other nine store will reduce the operating cost of that store or not, this must be clarified by answering these questions. In short, it is not assured by reducing the operating cost of the stores the profit will increase, also it may not be possible to reduce the operating cost for other stores as well. Therefore, the mentioned argument is no more valid, until the above mentioned questioned are answered. Edited August 25, 2015 by Yasir
