LReeves Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I accepted an offer for a graduate program, and I'm beginning to think it was a premature mistake. I keep thinking how I gave up on my dream school because I wanted to start a program right away. How do I know I made the right choice? What if I didn't? I'm beginning to feel like because I didn't pursue my top program I may not have the opportunities or clout that comes with the reputation of a highly established program...Should I make the best of it or go back to the drawing board?
nongfuspring1 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Hard to say given I don't know your options or your background, but personally I would suggest holding off and trying to get into the program you think best suits the career trajectory you want to take. Doing an MFA is generally pretty gruelling and what ever lack of enthusiasm you have now has a good chance to snowball as the course goes on.
YouArt_Amazing Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Only you can truly answer this, but if you feel this way now it's not likely to change; that's the nature of regret. It's also a disservice to the school and student body for you to bring this baggage and negative energy to their program. Realistically, you'll only do one MFA. You applied to this school so what made you do that and accept your current school beyond the reason you stated? Think about why you believe your dream school is better, can you realistically get into your dream school and what would you do if you turn down this offer and never get into another program. Whatever you decide, fully commit to being present in the program you pick.
