My profile is:1.Bachelor in Mathematics with Concentration in Statistics, GPA: 3.94 2. GRE quant: 168, verbal: 148, AWA: 3.3. Lots of competitions won: International Mathematics Competition 3rd place, National Mathematics Olympiad 3rd place4. BY the end of bachelor degree will complete around 150 credits, it is like 5 years of study.5. Working as Data analyst at retail company, part-time6. Limited exposure to research(now doing research with Professor on stochastic data analysis)7. Some advanced courses: Regression, Desing of experiments, Time series, Nonparametric, Intro/Intermediate/Advanced R, SAS, Real Analysis, Measure Theory, Complex analysis, PDE, Numerical Methods, Linear/Nonlinear Optimization, Stochastic Processes. 8. Courses also include other programming languages as C and Java. Also have taken Economics courses.9. Was visiting student at the University of Wisconsin Madison, studied Intro/Intermediate/Advanced R thereApplying to:1. UWashington - PhD in Statistics2. UChicago - PhD in Statistics3. MIT - PhD in OR4. UNC Chapel Hill - PhD in STOR5. UMichigan - PhD in Stats6. Northwestern - PhD in Indus. Eng and Management7. CMU - PhD in Machine Learning8. UToronto - MSc in StatisticsWill have LOR from professor who was in UWashington, now in our dep.After the degree want to end up in the industry, some tech company or consulting. What do you think? fluffyj Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I don't think you need to apply for masters programs since it looks like you have a strong profile already and you have taken so many courses/credits.I guess the only thing I would be concerned about is research experience, but otherwise you look pretty strong. I'm guessing you graduated outside of the U.S., which would make things a bit more competitive when applying to phd programs., but I think you should get in somewhere.
nuni Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks fluffyj. Yes, I am an international applicant. The reason of applying to MSc degree is that I am planning to work in industry and MSc degree is the shortest path for me.
nuni Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 As of programming competitions I participated in ACM ICPC national stage and our team ranked 22nd. It was my first competition in computer science.
