Ivanjam Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 It would appear that the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship is more competitive than the NSF GRFP. In 2015, 2000 NSF fellows were selected out of 16500 applicants (a 4:33 ratio) ( https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=134647 ), while in the same year, 60 Ford Foundation fellowships were awarded with 408 persons receiving honorable mention. Assuming that the number of outright rejections exceeded 27 applicants, it would appear that the ratio of Ford fellows to applicants would be less than 4:33.
oklagirl Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Or the week after. It seems like it is 50/50 in previous years on when the emails go out.....I am hoping it is sooner rather than later. kafcat 1
Philhopeful Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I'm not sure this means anything, but the other day I could still log in to the portal that showed me the information that i had submitted with my application and now when i try to log in it doesn't show any of that anymore and says "competition status closed: no further action can be taken at this time." kellyjean 1
guy1983 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Definitely not official but two people have been mentioned on Twitter as having won the Ford Fellowship. One was a postdoc five days ago. The other one, with no other info other than their name, six hours ago. Good luck all!
guy1983 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 As I said, not official. After some additional Google, both awardees mentioned on Twitter were past recipients. Not sure why they're now being mentioned as having received for the Ford. I think someone's messing with us.
bhub Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Maybe they are announcing by group. I think if you received the predoctoral or dissertation fellowship, you can still receive the postdoctoral one.
guy1983 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Maybe, but this particular scholar is a Ford postdoc fellow this year. Wouldn't think he could receive anything else in this application cycle.
Ashasaurusrex Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I spoke to someone from the office and they said they'd be sending out email notifications by the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. Fingers crossed! kellyjean and kafcat 2
DivineLavender Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I refresh the "News Release" page at least four times a day. Ashasaurusrex 1

bposadas Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 No dice on NSF GRFP... here's hoping Ford comes through! Good luck everyone! guy1983 1
Philhopeful Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 The advertisement brochure they gave out for the 2016 competition did say "March" instead of "April" as it had previous years. I will hold out hope.

oklagirl Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Just out of curiosity what were the time stamps on the emails? I haven't received anything yet....
inuendo Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 They will send rejection letters first, then honorable mention, then awards and alternates. Good luck to everyone!
bposadas Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Rejected too. ='( Will try again next year! 2 questions for you guys: - does the Ford provide the reviewers feedback anywhere? I know if you are selected you can access the comments, but will they do that for rejections as well? -anyone else applying for NPSC? I can't find an active forum for NPSC anywhere and it seems to be the most mysterious of all the fellowships I applied for.
