Educators should teach facts only after their students have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.

Educator should emphasize the logical derivations of the most important ideas that allow us to affront the world in which we live.

Teacher have tremendous challenges teaching what their students should learn. The first step to become an educated individual is to learn how to think; teachers are the catalytic factors that allow this learning to happen. Although it sounds easy to teach how to teach a person, it actually requires a lot of effort, since thinking is inherently related with the ideas and concepts. An idea has always a logical derivation and with it, it also comes the concepts. Concepts and ideas are the building block of the psychological process called thinking. Suppose for example that educators teach children to say how old they are. This is a fact, how old the student is, however he will not recognize any meaning of it, if he does not have the ideas and concepts related to the mechanisms of aging, development and change. This student would the typical innocent kid who know how old he or she is, but cannot connect this to the year in which he or she was born; he or she will not even be able to say how many years ago he or she was born, even being able to say his or her age.

In addition to teaching the building block of the thinking: ideas and concepts; students should also learn how ideas and concepts are originated and what historical adventures they have to go through: trends. Explaining students what a trend is will allow them to understand why some ideas are more prevalent than others, why some ideas in the contemporary world are out of fashion and why some ideas are so fashionable in modern times. Understanding this students will be able to put facts in a particular perspective.

Even though I claim for the importance of teaching ideas, concepts, and trends, first than fact, it is also important to recognize that teacher under especial circumstances should teach facts regardless of the ideas or concepts that were related to these facts. This is particularly clear, when teaching technology. Technology has a substantial amount of ideas and concepts that, because of the level of difficulty, students find particularly hard to understand. In this cases, teaching the facts before the ideas or concepts become relevant.

In Synthesis, this society need people with the ability to understand and question the facts to which they are confronted. This is not possible if teachers do not put greater emphasis in teaching ideas and concepts.
