mattcat
From the admissions pages I've looked at, it seems that philosophy grad programmes require only an unofficial transcript during the application process. Does anyone know if this is universally the case, or are there places which do require an official transcript during application?
maxhgns
When I was applying seven years ago, official transcripts were required everywhere except the UK. I expect that's mostly changed by now, but no doubt there are a few holdouts. Certainly, you'll be required to send official transcripts before you're officially accepted (i.e. after you get the acceptance letter but before you attend). jjb919
Each school is different; from the schools I was looking at, about half required official transcripts and half allowed unofficial transcripts (and if you are accepted you must submit official transcripts in order to enroll). Also, not many but a few schools require you to send two copies of transcripts (usually, one is to be send to the graduate admissions office and the other is to be sent directly to the philosophy department). I've found it helpful to create a spreadsheet of all the admissions requirements and deadlines of the schools I'm applying to.

But it's becoming almost universal. For what it's worth, in 2014, I believe six departments of the T20 required official transcripts mailed to the university.
