abhirammv Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Originating in an industrial environment, I have always been galvanised by the advancements in our daily lives due to technology. As a child, I used to dismantle any toy I obtained, with the curiosity of knowing how they work. After finishing high school, I started my baccalaureate degree in engineering at the prestigious institute of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering at Mysore, affiliated to Vishveshwariah Technological University, India. The fascination that I had for sensors and their role in automation made me choose Instrumentation technology as my college major. The knowledge about the principles of automation was understood by picking subjects such as ---------, and in line with my interests in automation, I acquired programming techniques through courses such as C++ & Data structures and algorithmic approaches to problem solving during my coursework, where I stood in the top 10th percentile with a CGPA of 8.76. During my undergraduate coursework, I was an active participant in the events organised by the IEEE organization. In my efforts to further hone my skills and to understand the pragmatic applications of automation, I completed a part time diploma course on Embedded Systems at the Mysore Embedded Technology Institute that at Mysore, where I experienced empirically the subject of embedded systems and experimented with various development boards, utilizing their potential with sensor based control applications. With the intention to build a complete system which involved the application of sensor based control, I engaged myself in a team project that worked on developing an energy efficient automotive engine by modifying the existing Wankel Rotary Engine into a powerhouse that operated on nothing but electricity. The success of this project, titled “iREACTOR”, was displayed at the PACE annual Global Conference held at Sao Paulo, Brazil and won the 2nd prize. While conducting the project, I garnered knowledge of self driving cars, the driving force behind which are the principles of machine learning and pattern recognition caught my eye. Google’s self driving car that currently is in its nascency is made up of a myriad of sensors, no doubt, but it’s brain comes from the principles of machine learning. The undergraduate education where I learnt about the principles of automation using sensors, has a very narrow range of applications. Subjects of machine learning and robotics, when combined with the knowledge of sensors and their working principles, opens up a broad gamut of opportunities. With an aim to improve the global conditions and to make a mark on the planet by reducing the dependency on fossil fuels with intelligent systems that are energy efficient, I am planning to pursue the courses of ---------- at the univ of ---------. In combination with the subjects of -----, the labs of ------- in the field of computer engineering at the University of -------, my dream of placating the dependency on fossil fuels through the development of intelligent energy efficient systems so as to help the future generations prosper would be fulfilled. Next part is the research specific content localised to the univ.
