chinku Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 My LOR and SOP have a same sentence with similar structure of words and all the documents are already submitted. Would the selection committee take this seriously and reject me? Is it going to affect my acceptance rate? If yes then how badly?
TheMonkeyOnMyBack Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 How do you know that your LOR has the same sentence as your SOP? I would assume that the committee wouldn't take much notice possibly assuming that your recommender used the wording after s/he reviewed you SOP in preparation for writing the letter.
aegis921 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 @TheMonkeyOnMyBack I think the concern is that since OP drafted the letter (as requested by their PI), admissions committees might connect the dots when seeing the same sentence in both letter and SOP
darksteam Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) I don't think it is a problem at all. When I asked my manager and my professor to write LoRs for me, they requested my documents such as my SOP, Resume, and Transcript. Moreover, it is their right to copy and write anything in the LoRs. You cannot stop them to not coping your sentence(s) in the SOP "unless" you are in the process of writing the LoRs. Edited December 8, 2015 by darksteam
