So if you have the mood, I am actually curious about what evolutionary biophysics is. I only glimpsed on his webpage but did not dig into it. Feels like a relatively unique concept.
phy_evo Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Its about using principles from statistical mechanics and molecular evolution to characterize the dynamics of genome evolution such as in cancer cells, viral populations, how and at what rate natural selection will take place, what external factor govern whether a mutation in the genome will survive in the next generations etc.
tbaran Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I didn't hear anything either... There seems to be only one post yet, whereas there were multiple people posting around the same time for other MIT programs. Maybe they haven't sent a mass invite e-mail. Based on past data, CSBi sends out pre-interview rejections about the same time as the interviews, so at least we'll have a definite result by the end of this week either ways.

I am curious about what kind of statistical mechanics principles. Does he only do theory or also experiments? Seems like a lot process needs to be studied and modelled, chromatin dynamics, replication. I think it is very interesting to define a good question where all the process can be controlled.

All the other programs produces several entries. We only have one now.

Yav Friendly Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 OK. The three of us all have relatively specific POIs. Feels like our destiny partly depends on whether they have enough funding or not.

phy_evo Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I broke down with anxiousness and mailed them again. Latest by Friday i.e. tomorrow they said.

You are not very strong, are you ? What took them so long? If it is gonna be a rejection, I prefer to know right now!

phy_evo Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Good. Got an invite from my top choice and another college I love. How about you?

phy_evo Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Seems like two rejections have been sent out as well. I have neither an acceptance nor a rejection. Wait listed?

Wait listed? I did not put it on the survey, but I am rejected. I do not think there is waitlist before interview. You will know in hours.

That's really weird... Edited January 16, 2016 by tbaran
