thehegeldialectic Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 If so, which ones? Are there any online philosophical communities you're involved in?
MVSCZAR Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) I'm active in basically every philosophy subreddit. Besides r/philosophy... Edited February 15, 2016 by MVSCZAR
thehegeldialectic Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 I haven't really tried them before; which ones are particularly good?
Chrysippus'Doge Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 /r/askphilosophy is probably the best place as far as discussion goes, but the fact that all posts have to be questions can at times be limiting. /r/philosophy is pretty hit or miss. Some of the posts are nonsense, but there is quality content there. It's kind of up to you to separate the wheat from the chaff. It's true the discussion can be pretty bad because the posts get inundated with people who know nothing about philosophy, but the Weekly Discussion series that were running are actually high quality and oftentimes experts will join in the discussion. /r/academicphilosophy is more focused on the profession and is pretty dead.

Basically this. Most of what's good on /r/philosophy you can find by reading Daily Nous and a couple of blogs specific to your areas of interest. If you don't know what those might be, ask around. Someone you know is reading all of them obsessively.
MVSCZAR Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I agree with the above posters. Askphilosophy is my favorite. Wokeupabug also happens to be my favorite internet celebrity. frege-bombs 1
psm1580b Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I find most public philosophy forums like that to be roughly akin to the comments section on a Fox News article. However, it has been quite a while. Perhaps things have changed.

I've been a couple of public forms that had particular groups or threads for philosophy. Sadly, it was filled with angsty teenage nihilists misreading Nietzsche, varying Fight Club enthusiasts, and the occasional anti-natalist. And that was at the best of times. brush 1
