DraPHt2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 So, I received an invitation to interview for a doctoral program in public health, and I am wondering if it would be a "faux pas" to contact current or past students regarding their interview experience. I would not ask outright what questions they were asked, I am just curious as to what I should expect regarding the overall experience. I am nervous because I live out of state and cannot attend the on-campus Interview Day, so I want to ensure that I am as prepared as possible and came make a "lasting" impression over the phone lines lol HELP!

I spoke with current students about interviews at all of the schools I interviewed with. I think it's a very good idea. Of course, they will not tell you the questions but they will be helpful in many other ways. The students may give you insight on the professors or the program past what you see on the program's website. I would say go for it.
DraPHt2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 @Love3 Thanks for the input! I was unsure...didn't want to seem like I was seeking an unfair advantage.

I think most people would actually consider this as being pretty on the ball, taking initiative, etc. rather than seeking unfair advantage. It's always good to speak with current students about their experiences, not only as students but also as prospective students. It might also be good to ask these questions alongside questions about their general experience, though. You want to seem interested in the entire picture (as I'm sure you must be!).
