LLCoolJ1585 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Hey folks, This is my top choice for a variety of reasons. They are going through several changes it seems, and I'd like to be a part of that change. Seems like theres a new program admin who took things over and ever since she's taken over I've seen tons of changes to the website and marketing efforts ramped up. The only problem is that they previously had on the website that the turnaround for admission info was four weeks. They have since deleted that off the website and now have no date as to when they'll let folks know of their admission. I emailed them about a week ago and haven't gotten a response but I applied January 11th, so I should've heard back by Mid-February at the latest. But... crickets. Anybody else interested in Brown? Is it your top choice as well?
sneeps Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Hey - I also applied to Brown, but back in December (I think around the 22nd). I received an acceptance on 2/16 (and didn't get any updates about my application being under review or anything before that, so I get what you mean about the crickets). I'm sorry that they never responded to your email, but as you can see I didn't hear anything until well after the four week mark. I agree that the revamped program is super appealing (love that one of the global policy experiences is in Stockholm), but I do have my reservations about attending a program that is new...there may be some kinks to work out.

I can understand that, ESPECIALLY if you have options. But me, Im older, I have a doctorate degree already and I really would prefer not to be out of work for 2 years (as opposed to 1 which is another great thing about the program), and also my visit there was pretty great. Funny enough, I just received an email from them. I guess the 4-week turn around is off the table. They now say April 15th folks should hear something, which is pretty late considering you'd start class first week of June if you are accepted. That's less than 2 months to change your whole life around haha. P.S. Looks like we applied to a few of the same programs. I almost did Sanford, decided against it, but I did do McCourt and visited there as well, and UChicago (not sure if you applied there).
sneeps Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Jeez! That is pretty late. Your reasoning makes total sense. I went to a recruiting event they had back in November, and I loved how friendly the admissions team was. Some alumni came as well, and they were all up to some pretty interesting things. I almost decided to only apply to Brown at that point (I definitely romanticize the school a bit - part of me wishes I went there for my undergrad). In any case, kinks or no kinks, I don't think you'd go wrong with Brown, even if it's not mentioned a lot here. I only applied to Brown, Sanford, and McCourt, so now I'm in the anxiety-ridden decisions process Best of luck to you! LLCoolJ1585 1
LLCoolJ1585 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Thanks a bunch. Same to you. Anyone else looking into Brown?
