og_casper Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Even though I still have 3 schools left to hear back from, I'm already starting to hang my head and start thinking seriously about what I'm going to be doing this fall if I don't get accepted to any schools. Due to poor planning, I only applied to 7 schools, and none of them were shit-tier where I could for sure get accepted. I completely missed the December 15 wave of application dates due to having a really busy fall semester (and also due to spending too much time consuming cannabis). I'm the only person at my school applying to pure math grad school this year, so it's been a pretty isolated(ing) process. My recommendation letters are strong, I have a published paper and have given some talks, but weak GRE subject and weak GPA and I'm pretty sure my personal statement came off as cocky. I got waitlisted at UC Irvine and rejected from 5 more. Not looking too promising. So what now? Take out personal loans, move to a new city with a math department, hang around it, working full time minimum wage job, and wait for next year, and improve my GRE subject? Resign myself to a life of pizza delivery? Anybody else having these feels? What's your Plan B?
