ctsmash Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Hello everyone I am a brand new poster. Today I took my GRE and I did OK. Not so amazing but OK. I got a 680 V and 540 Q. I Wish my Q was higher but I'm not under and delusions that I will be admitted to SIPA SAIS HKS or any of those school even with a higher quant score. Stats: Undergrad GPA 3.32 major philosophy. Kind of low but there's not much I can do about it now. 0 relevant work experience but 2 years of post undergrad irrelevant work experience. Too bad, but I don't see anyway that I can gain relevant work experience in this economy--or ever, because employers have not looked very interested when they see I majored in philosophy. Retake GRE? This quant score is not impressive but never have I claimed analytic proficiency and I would like to avoid a career that requires me to have such proficiency. I really can't decide if an extra 30 points is going to be worth it. Anyway, I can't take it in time for most of my deadlines so its kind of a moot point. Anyway, my reachiest schools are Elliot School and American SIS. I am also applying to LBJ, Pitt GSPIA, Denver BU. And probably NYU SCPS Global Affairs. I don't know where to place LBJ and GSPIA in terms of a reach/safe scale. Thanks for any suggestions. And if I could add, I have not been able to find info for BU ANYWHERE. It seems as if no one on the internet has anything to say at all about BU's IR program on this or any board. Does anyone have thoughts? Is there a thread on here about it?

All I know is that Andrew Bacevich teaches at BU. Not much to go on there, I know, but it is something!
ctsmash Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks for the reply. You know, I read one of Bacevich's books before I thought about applying there. After I saw that he taught there I figure that BU MUST have something to offer. David Fromkin also teaches there and hes no dummy.

Down here in Texas, UT is considered an excellent university. I can't tell you about the specifics of LBJ, but UT has a premiere reputation. Did you wind up retaking the GRE? I also have a very similiar quant. GRE score.
