Current MPH Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) Hello, I am interested in obtaining the CPH credential, but am still uncertain about its usefulness. I have seen some other informative discussions that suggested the credential had questionable value. However, it seems those discussions are several years old now and the credential has been out for a while longer. I was wondering if current opinion of the CPH credential in public health practice has improved in recent years, or if it is still not regarded very highly. I have no aversion to taking the exam and I definitely endorse the concept of elevating the profession through credentialing, but do not want to spend the money if it is of little use. Also, does anyone know how expsive it would be to obtain continuing education credits for its maintenance? I welcome all perspectives. Thank you! Edited May 1, 2016 by Current MPH Spelling
Billowack Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I would not recommend doing it unless the test will be paid for by your school/work/etc. I had to do it as a part of my MPH and the school paid for it. However, I will not be renewing. It has been of absolutely no use to me. As far as I can tell it just seems to be a scheme to make them money. The CE credits are usually conferences, which are pretty expensive in and of themselves AND you have to pay a $95.00 renewal fee every time.
