arthistorybuff Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I posted this in an earlier post but thought I add it here.... i just recently took the gre with the hope of applying next fall. i improved but only slightly (156 verbal). I am just curious if anyone can provide insight on how heavily the test is weighed in the application process. I have already done a master's and am working in a highly reputable museum. Just curious if this is a deal breaker?
hleefracesh Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Not a deal breaker. Above anything its about being a good fit. But also it depends on the amount of emphasis a specific department places on GREs.I got into a top 5 art history phd with scores below what was "suggested" for entry.
blc073 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Some programs will view this as a problem while other programs will not care at all. Apply widely for a better chance to get into a program that does not care about GRE as much.
