Ivy League Divinty Schools

UscScion

Question

Hey, everyone! Totally new to the forum but I will be applying for a master's in Theology at a handful of Ivy Div schools for (hopefully) admission in fall of 2017.

I will most likely have a handful of questions to ask about admissions and financial aid regarding some of these programs from those currently enrolled and those who teach in said programs or alumni.

My first question though has to do with "fit".

How well do you think someone would fit in well with the students and faculty and overall theological "direction" of programs at places like Harvard Div, Yale, Chicago, Vanderbilt, Duke, etc., who is a fairly "moderate" Catholic?

I grew up evangelical Protestant but have since formally converted to Catholicism. I am interested in Religion and Ethics and Sytematic Theology.

I have a tremendous deal of respect for those of all religious traditions and am quite fascinated by not only our differences in practice and tradition but also in our incredible similarities.

Bascially, I want to know if being someone from a Catholoc position I would not feel welcome or be looked down on for not being either a mainline Protestant/ evangelical or even for not being a "none" or religious seeker. Thoughts? Thanks!!

I think most of those places are pretty open in terms of who they accept. Have you thought of Notre Dame? There are a very highly ranked dept. and are (obviously) Catholic as well.

You might try posting your query over in the religion forum, as that's where most of the religious studies/theology/biblical studies folks tend to hang out.
