catmama Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I'm writing my professional statement for Nazareth College's three year extended program. The admissions page posts no guidelines for length. I am applying as an "out of field" student so I feel like I have to explain my path to finding SLP... Currently my essay is at 845 words- 1.5 pages. I am definitely trying to cut it down but wanted to know if admissions committees are strict about one page? Any direct experience with Nazareth?
Jolie717 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I only applied to three programs, but my SOPs ranged from 2-5 pages, double spaced. The third (5 pages) had multiple prompts, hence the length. When in doubt, however, it certainly doesn't hurt to call the department and ask!
Speechster Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Most only want 1-2 pages. You should be fine.
thespeechblog.com Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I would agree with @Speechster that 1-2 pages is usually best. Mine were around 800-900 words unless specified that they should be shorter. If you're in doubt, call the department and ask for guidance. No experience with Nazareth. Good luck!
ElKel87 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Late response but stumbled across this post in my statement of purpose research. At an open house I attended recently the head of the department specifically said brevity is key. So with that said I agree that 1-2 pages should be totally fine. They get so many applications I feel like they'll only skim anything more than that (with the exception of what Jolie717 posted above about multiple prompts).
