suit_and_tie Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I'm interested in MS IT with a focus in Healthcare Informatics from SNHU. I have a very low undergrad GPA but they're willing to accept me on a conditional basis. Is this too good to be true? Since it's online I'll need to find my own volunteer, research, internships, etc., but they are a degree granting institution. Will I have a hard time finding work if I get a degree from them?
makingtheleap.back Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 My dad always said to never go to a school that puts as much money into advertising as academics. That said, if you need the degree for the jobs you want and have no other options, you can either attend or wait another year. The other possible option is going there for a year, killing it, and applying for a transfer so your institution of record is somewhere else. But that option depends on what would be considered transferable. In the end, going there might be a waste of money, and has an associated opportunity cost (what work experience are you passing up on that could help you overcome that poor CGPA?)
likearollinstone Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I am attending SNHU for undergrad. Personally, I have had a good experience, and I know many alumni who have gone on to campus-based Grad schools. Having said that, there is very little opportunity for research and making connections with professors is difficult. It can be done, but you have to be willing to contact them and keep a conversation moving. I am not considering staying for Grad for a couple of reasons, first they do not have the program I want and secondly, I am really interested in a campus experience. If you are looking for a masters program, and are OK with online courses (time management skills are essential!) SNHU is a great school, if you are looking for more than I would look around and weigh your options carefully.
