Some questions about SOP/research

Hi!

I'm applying for a MS/MEng in Chemical engineering. Lots of people mention that you need to do your research on what the department's current researches are and specify the research programs/professors you would like to join if admitted. However unlike PhDs, most of these master programs are course-based instead of doing research, I'm wondering if I still need to do this since I may not be doing research at all.

Also I've read some SOPs using much of their space talking about their undergrad. research, which I didn't do. What would be some other things I can talk about in my SOP?
