Guest (maple) Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Umich, Political Science I emailed to find out. And their reply is: "All applicants are notified of his/her application status on or before April 1, 2006. Those who were recommended for admission have already been notified." Since I never got their notification, that clearly means .... But I wonder why they didn't just email me and tell me the result in a more straightforward way? Maybe my notification is on the way to me by postal service? I hope! Bless everyone else who is waiting for the snail response!
Guest evelyn Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 maybe you're on a wait list of sorts? good luck
Guest c2d2 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 well that sucks! i have been waiting to hear re: michigan poli sci as well.
Guest Tassadar Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Some graduate schools have this sort of policy to "spare applicants' feelings". Words like "a decision has been made on your application and the result has been mailed out to you" actually is a clear rejection. Or maybe I am wrong. However, don't hang on it too much.
Guest Sandra Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 that just makes things harder tho. Quite annoying
Guest Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Some graduate schools have this sort of policy to "spare applicants' feelings". Words like "a decision has been made on your application and the result has been mailed out to you" actually is a clear rejection. Or maybe I am wrong. However, don't hang on it too much. i e-mailed a few days ago and got a one line response: "decisions will be made on or before April 1." i would much prefer the school be up front with me. if i am waitlisted, fine. tell me that. if i am rejected, fine. i'd like to know. i have another school that is really pressing me for an answer. i really would like to tell them yes because i think the chances of getting in to michigan at this point are slim, but i don't want to say yes and then get into michigan either. i know it is my right to not give an answer until april, but i don't want to strain relations with people at the place i may end up. if michigan wasn't michigan, this would be enough for me to kiss the school goodbye. michigan probably knows that people feel this way though and therefore feels that they can wait and wait and wait and not make people too angry. regardless it's really annoying. i mean, the application was due at teh beginning of december. surely they know the people who are clear rejects by now. as far as i know, NO ONE has been rejected. i think it's unfair to keep people hanging on til the last possible minute if there is no hope of admission for them. JMHO.
History_Nerd Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Yeah, when a school says, "All successful candidates have been notified" and I don't get my rejection e-mail for days and days, I get annoyed. Why not just send out a standard form letter, yes, no, waitlist, etc. on a rolling basis. Am I missing something here? It doesn't seem that hard. The committee meets, puts people into neat little piles eventually and hands them off to the admin who then sends off the appropriate form e-mail to each applicant. That part of the process can't take more than an hour, yet it takes days or weeks sometimes to hear, what gives?!
Guest guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 FYI - to all those still waiting on Umich poli sci - Wolverine Access seems to have been updated today. I got a decision (rejection - not surprising).
Guest muse Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 I got rejected from my dream school. But I emailed a prof and were gonna speak by phone tuesday. Hopefully Ill get in on provisionary status.
jennesy Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 So there are places that don't actually notify you that you didn't get in? Are we just supposed to sit around and assume that since we didn't hear anything we didn't get in? agh!
History_Nerd Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I can sort of understand not letting me know if I didn't get a job I applied for, but, geesh, I paid you a lot of money for a rejection letter. Come on.
Guest anon Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I just got dumped by WUSTL and Northwestern. cried like a b!tch
godwin Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Waitin am waitin waitin, Burning in hell is better than waiting for the snail decision of some grad school. Applied to CSU sine january, guess what ? The the grad secetary says she dosen't know when a decision is likely to be made. What nonsense. Paid an appl of 50 dolls only to get shit. I advice other international students to start looking at schools in canada, Australia and some parts of europe. The grad schs in the Staes have gone nuts.
GradWannabe Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I got rejected from Berkeley's MPP program. They sent a letter making that quite clear. It was a bit of a reach though so I am not surprised. Neither accepted or rejected at at Georgetown. Waitlisted and have been anxiously checking my mail for a long promised mailing regarding the waitlist only to get this e-mail yesterday: The waitlist mailing scheduled for the week of April 3 has been cancelled. We will instead accept emails from students wishing to remain on the waitlist. If you have previously submitted an email, it is not necessary for you to do so again. You are also welcomed to submit additional information for the committee’s consideration. Sigh... I was also rejected from American University's MPP program, yet accepted to the MPA program. Mmmmmmkay.
