Evolutionary Psychology (EP) Update Thread

For those of you applying to EP programs or POIs focused on EP within a different sub-discipline let's get a conversation going. Has anyone heard anything from their programs? So far all is silent on my front (apart from being rejected from U Mich).

It is funny because a week or so before I got rejected from U Mich I had a pleasant dream where, in the dream, I got in to U Mich. It reminded me of something you hear in movies from time to time when confronted with life and death situations (and we all know applying to grad school is such a situation!). If you are caught in extreme circumstances (like in The Road for example), the message goes, having unpleasant dreams means you are still fighting! If however, you have hopeful dreams it means you have given up! I suppose since U Mich was my reach school I had, according to this cinematic interpretation, given up!

I have not heard a thing from any of the programs that I have applied to after saying that my applications were complete. I wish they would hurry up and let me know, but I don't expect anything for another month or two.

I'm finishing my Masters in general experimental psych right now and taking the next year off to figure out what direction I want to go. I've recently started thinking about evolutionary psychology but have not researched programs much at all. The only program I know of that I am interested in is Duke, and that is probably a longshot for me. What programs are you all applying to and what specifically do you want to do/do those programs do?

The Selfish Gene (Richard Dawkins) and How the Mind Works (Steven Pinker) are two great starting places I would recommend if you are exploring EP as a possibility.

To answer your other question, while I am generally interested in the gamut of evolutionary theory my real interests lie in evolutionary perspectives on emotion and on morality.

heard through the grapevine that FAU EP sent an offer to a PhD applicant who has accepted. also have alternates lined up in case offers from other labs are turned down.

I have applied to UT austin, oakland, and Unm and they all say that the graduate committee is still reviewing. Good or bad news, I have no idea.
