newage2012 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 http://compgeom.cs.uiuc.edu/~jeffe/ No shit. "I have the lowest undergraduate GPA (2.4/4.0) of any professor I've ever met, but some of my colleagues came close. I really shouldn't be proud of that."
Steven Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 In a prestigious program to boot. I love his website, I am simultaneously proud and embarrassed that the following quote cracked me up: "Im in ur graffs, dulizing yr homaloogy."

I love his website, I am simultaneously proud and embarrassed that the following quote cracked me up: "Im in ur graffs, dulizing yr homaloogy." Why embarrassed? I'm just proud. Lolcats r awsum!!1 Seriously though, this dude is badass. His story is a source of inspiration to smart slackers worldwide (like me ). Thanks for sharing - I bookmarked his blog!
zilch Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 computer science is one of the few fields where a low GPA doesn't get your app tossed out instantly. They want to know more about what you've done, if you released a bunch of programs that show your ability they wouldn't really care that you didn't do well in class.
JerryLandis Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 A lot of the computer science folks I've known have been the quiet super genius types who maybe haven't had the best connections with teachers or the best experience in the classroom. They're the kind of people who instead of doing their homework, stay up all night building weird contraptions and nerding it up. So I guess people in admissions committees must give some leeway to those they think may have potential, but just haven't been properly motivated in certain classes.
