Sorry if this is a stupid question... Several of the programs I applied to offer stipends for assistantships, etc. Are these funds normally dispersed in one lump sum at the beginning of the semester like financial aid or is it on a monthly basis?

Thanks

Usually it's on a monthly basis, split over either 9 months (=excluding summer) or 12 months.

yeah it is monthly and exculed summer. when they also pay you for summer as well, they inform you for that separately. those who fund students for summer months often pay around $4500-5000 for summer.

This depends highly on the particular program and source of funding.

As a TA or RA, I am paid monthly. However, several of my friends in Sociology with department or university fellowships were paid in a lump sum at the start of the academic year.

You should ask particular programs -- there is no one answer to this question.

I have a fellowship and get payed monthly, so it seems it depends mostly on the particular department and its preferences.
