Haha same here with the whole 'today's "the day"' thinking - every time I open gmail I come up with some reason why this day/time of day/phase of moon makes it likely that I'll hear something... of course I don't, maybe it makes me feel better to think "Hmm, 3:00 on Tuesday might be when schools send out acceptance emails" or I'm just going crazy. And of course two months ago I was worried I wouldn't get in anywhere, so I shouldn't even be worried now that I've gotten some acceptances, but I've gotten greedy and want to get in everywhere! (though I'll still be a kind of shocked if I get into MIT...)

The guys that got in from my school had 4.0s. In my opinion, 2 of them had a little bit of research experience. One of them deserves it (tons of research, always in the lab). I just keep hoping that they didn't look at my 3.88 and think now why would we let her in? Like hollygolightly, I just keep telling myself that today is the day. I am definitely starting to feel a little bit crazy and I know I'll sleep better once I hear. Worst case scenario, I'm off to the Bay Area with its Mediterranean clime and close proximity to wine country. Good luck to all! Is anyone going on particular visits?

Princeton will be sending out official notifications today. I found out I was admitted a couple of days ago through an informal letter sent to me by the Office of Academic Affairs (I don't know why this happened) not through the ChemE department. The department was supposed to send out official notifications yesterday but the University closed due to the snow storm... Just thought I'd let you guys know. You can start pressing your F5 now :)

Good luck guys!

If you haven't heard back from UT-A yet, you might not want to hold your breath. If you're in, they usually get back quickly, and the visiting weekend is coming up on the 27th. I participated in an REU program at UT and was rejected. I only know because the professor I worked with (and who wrote one of my recs) told me. From inside information (as I understood it, anyway), they first used a math formula that weights the GRE and GPA to blindly cut applicants down to ~160. The top of that list essentially gets automatically accepted, and everyone else with high/intermediate scores have their applications scrutinized more closely. Overall, they only accept ~30. My scores were 800 Quantitative, 480 Verbal, 4 Analytical Writing, and GPA of 3.83 which wasn't good enough for the first cut. Thanks to the UT professor who wrote my rec, I was later accepted with the caveat of having to work for him. In other words, if you do get rejected, don't feel bad -- they have a really strange method for granting admissions.

To counter, I was accepted at UCSB, Berkeley, and U Delaware (all better programs for my area of interest) with no hitches. I am also waiting on MIT, but it's the bottom of my list. Whether we'll know it or not, see some of you at the visits! Good luck, everyone!

Hello Everyone,

I've been offered admission for Ph.D. from both Cornell and Wisconsin Madison.

Can you give me specific suggestions/pros/cons/advice which may help me make a informed decision ?

Anyone else having to make a similar choice? Can you post your views?

Thanks for your time and patience.

Saad
