So with a month and a half left I have received an admit from one of my top five schools with partial funding. I have also received an offer with a good fully funded package from my safety school. Lastly as it stands I am the 1st on a wait list for a fully funded spot at what I can best describe as my number 5 school, and in conversations today I was told that I should have an official offer within the next two weeks, they went so far as to lay out the offer that they expected to be sending. The reason for the waitlist was they try to keep a quota of geographic study. After speaking with the school that offered me partial funding (about half of the cost funded) they suggested that more funding may be available in the coming weeks. This conversation was about 2 weeks ago. My question is there a way to ask the top five school politely to fully fund the phd on par with the offer from my safety school, or with the anticipated offer from the waitlisted school? The field is European History.
The school that waitlisted me and the school with partial funding are statistically equal, the reason I rank one above the other is location and other personal reasons. As for the safety school, it was the school most likely to accept me and while I would be more than happy there, personal reasons kick it down the list.
Thank you for any assistance in how one might go about navigating this.
