I am a doctoral applicant from Nigeria. I must admit the whole application process to Universities in the US is really shapening. It helped me to discover abilities/skill sets I never thought I had. In sum, I found myself and niche at the this time. I applied to many schools (10) because I felt who knows a bloody Nigerian student. I just got admitted to University of Iowa/ Occupational and Environmental Health PhD. I almost did not apply because my GRE scores were below average 155 verb, 152 quants, 3 awa. GPA 3.26 undergraduate, 3.78 MPH, 2 years work experience as an Environmental Consultant. My mentor/potential supervisor says the most compelling part of my application were my SOP,LOR and research interests. It feels surreal that I got accepted. Funding not yet available but things are looking up so I will remain positive. I recently joined the forum by the way although I have been a passive guest and an avid reader.
