bowiesalvatore Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 What do you guys think about listing family business on an MPP resume?
3dender Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 That's not much to go on. It depends on 1) what the business is and 2) what your title/duties were. But honestly the fact that you're having doubts about doing it means you probably shouldn't.
zling Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 The other thing to consider is how much other work experience do you have, and how does it stack up against your family business experience? If you have held more significant jobs, have a few years of work/research or experience in MPP-relevant fields, then you'd likely want to focus on that instead. However, if there isn't much else to write about, then it's about marketing your family business experience as best as you can. e.g. running any projects, coming up with a social media marketing plan, increasing profits by XX%.
EmPeePee Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I feel like applying to policy school is more about telling a narrative that it is about being impressive. You should talk about the family business if it fits into your broader narrative of why you want to go into public service. Are you passionate about government/business relations? Making regulations more efficient? Advocating for worker's rights? If you can make a connection between the family business and public service, use it. If not, I don't know. ExponentialDecay 1
