Hi there! I'm looking to do my Political Science PhD in America as a Brit and having done my MA/BA in the UK. I'm aiming to apply for universities in the top 20 in the United States and was wondering whether I had a competitive application? I also was wondering how British applicants in general are viewed in the United States? Also what more can I do to strengthen my application?

University: University College London (UK)
Degree: Russian and Post-Soviet Politics M.A. - Distinction
GPA: 3.9

University: University of Birmingham (UK)
Degree: Political Science B.A. - 2:1
GPA: 3.5 Total / 3.69 Grading Scale (But unsure grade conversion given 0% of final grade is first year, 25% of final grade is second year, 75% of final grade is third year. When weighted as that my grades improved gradually year on year resulting in a GPA of 3.69)

GRE: 160 V, 160 Q, 5 W
Likely Letters of Recommendation: One from my lecturer at undergraduate who i published a quantitative joint paper with this year evaluating data (Excellent), One from a masters who taught me for two of my masters courses and internationally well known, One from my masters lecturer who said he'd write me an excellent one about my contribution, intellect etc.
Research Experience: 3 Peer Reviewed Published Papers, 1 Joint Peer Reviewed Published Paper, Voluntary Research Assistant June 2017-Present

Are these pubs in actual legitimate outlets? Because if they are then you have a stronger profile than 99% of applicants. I suspect they aren't because that would be strong output for even an ABD.

The joint publication is a quantitative analysis journal well regarded in the UK and is peer reviewed by political scientists involved in data analysis.

The three other publications, one is a specialised post-grad journal in my area of expertise internally at my university while the other two are specialised journals but in my field, known as kind of a second or third tier area for publishing according to my lecturers this year.

How does that match up? :)
