  1. Thanks for the advice! The deadline is April 15. Both master programs in Duke and Utrecht are professional master programs, but I am considering doing a PhD afterwards.
  2. Hi, guys~ I got in the Master of Environmental Management of Nicholas School of Duke University and Master of Sustainable Business and Innovation of Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Nicholas School offered me $12000 scholarship for year 2015-16, and Utrecht University offered me the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship (full-tuition waiver). So now the decision is pretty much about saving money or earning a degree from a better-known institution...and it's a tough one. I'd appreciate if people can tell me about what they think or offer insights about the programs, and lots of thanks in advance
  3. Congrats, applyingF15! I also saw you from another post. May I ask what was your interview like? And how long after the interview did you receive the acceptance notice? I also had a very short skype interview on Monday and I'm now very anxious... Thx
  4. Yes, I did. I'm going to have the interview in an hour. Super nervous...
  5. Hi, guys~ I applied to the MEM program of both Yale FES and Duke Nicholas and I got an interview request from Duke to test my English speaking skills (I'm an international applicant). I scheduled my interview at 12:00 am WST. I thought 12:00 am is noon, which is actually midnight, so I missed my interview ( and stood up the interviewer T.T) I send an email to apologize and hope to reschedule the interview, not sure she would do that. It's such a stupid mistake and I feel really bad now Do you think it will affect my application? Thanks
  6. Hi, guys. I'm getting really freaked out now that I heard NOTHING from the schools I applied to Undergrad Institution: Big Research Oriented University in China. Major(s): Environmental Science (in Earth Science department) Minor(s): GPA in Major: Overall GPA:3.91/4.3 Position in Class:1/11 Type of Student: International female GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 169 V: 165 W: 4.0 Research Experience: 1.5 years of research experience in eco-geology and paleoclimate at home institution in China, a bit of work in environmental policy during an exchange semester, 2 months physical oceanography/geomicrobiology in MIT Awards/Honors/Recognitions: 2 times Chinese National Scholarship and a top tier scholarship from a business foundation Pertinent Activities or Jobs: research assistant Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Special Bonus Points: not any that I can think of... Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: LOR from my advisor in MIT, not sure what she wrote about me... One third author paper subscribed to PNAS and got rejected, but when I submitted my application it was still under review so in my SOP I described it as under review Applying to Where: PhD: Stanford EESS Princeton Geoscience UCSB Geoscience UNC-Chapel Hill Marine Science Brown geoscience UT Austin geoscience Columbia Lamount-Doherty My research interest mostly lies in paleoclimate. I tried to contact the faculty I want to work with, and only heard back from UNC, Brown and Columbia. The UNC professor said there's plenty of opportunity for my research interest and encouraged me to apply. The Columbia faculty said he does not have funding at the moment but encouraged me to apply (...) and I visited the lab at Brown this summer during my time at MIT, but the professor was on a sampling trip and I talked with two PhD students. I also applied to MEM at Yale FES and Duke Nicholas School and a master at Utrecht University. I got accepted to Utrecht and is now working on a thesis to apply for Utrecht scholarship. Many of my friends around are receiving interview notices or already got offers and I heard nothing from any US school I applied to and I'm really freaking out. So please any advice? Should I try to contact the someone to ask or just wait?
  7. Seeing the large portion of successful MEM applicants brought my hopes up...but guess it may be a lot different for an international applicant applying as a college senior Could anyone please take a look at my profile : ) Undergrad institution: top 5 in China Major: Environmental Science in the Earth Science department GPA 3.91/4.3 GRE Q 169 V 165 AW 4.0 No working or intern experience volunteered a semester in a geology museum exchange experience in HK where I took a few environmental policy courses almost no courses in economics or management quite a lot of research experience in my home institution, HK, and one summer at MIT. All the research is more about earth science except the one in HK which is about environmental policy LOR from my student advisor (a geochemistry professor) in my home institution, a environmental policy professor in HK CityU and a geomicrobiology professor I worked with in MIT Thanks a million!
  8. Hi, everyone! I'm an international student applying to grad schools in the US or Canada for Fall 2015. My interest is interdisciplinary environmental studies with more focus on scientific and technological aspects. I'm considering both PhD and Master programs. I know this type of PhD programs often come with full funding, and what about master programs? Are there master programs of this field that come with at least half-funding? Thanks!
