  1. Hello all I had a couple of topics that I am very confused about. First, I recently received my master's and I am now trying to become licensed in the state of Minnesota to practice as a Licensed Counselor. I was wondering if the name value of your institution that you were licensed through mattered or not? (I went to a professional school, and I am regretting it a bit. This was due to my laziness I wouldn't have to take the GRE). Second: I see these post master's counseling certification programs offered by many schools. I was wondering if these programs were worth it, and if the name value of the school would help you when you are looking for jobs? I am considering this, because of the name value of my Master's institution. Also hopefully, if I were to complete a couple of certification classes, I was considering the possibility of applying to a PsyD or PhD program in the future. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you
  2. Hello all I am also just starting the I/O PhD application process. I was just curious about recommendation letters. I have not been in school for over 6 years now, so I have not been keeping in touch with some of my old professors. .I have been working in international HR. I was wondering if anyone believes that letters of recommendation from my bosses are \ enough, or would I have to get one from a former professor or someone in academia? I was interested in researching in work happiness, motivation or work efficiency. Just hope to improve working conditions in Asia
  3. Hello everyone I would like to ask some people for some advice on who should I ask to write my LORs. I will be planning on applying to a couple of I/O Psychology or Counseling PhD programs for fall 2016, and I was curious of people's opinion about the people of whom I decided to ask for an LOR. I have been working in International HR for the past 5 years (in a large conglomerate), and I have not been in contact with any of my old professors. I have been volunteering at a psychotherapy clinic during weekends for the past year. So far the people that I have asked to write my LOR are my boss, and the Vice President of the company I am currently working at. The third LOR is from the director of the clinic that I am volunteering at. I was curious about someone's opinion of how crucial a LOR from a former professor is for the application process. I assumed if my work experience and my intention to applying I/O Psychology programs, my recommendations would be good enough. Any insight on this would be great. Thank you
  4. Hello everyone I am an American student that had a few questions about St. Mary's I/O Psychology PhD program. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about the reputation of the program. I have never heard of the university, until one of my colleagues told me to look into Canadian programs. I noticed that only 2 were listed under the SIOP website. While doing some research in the school, I noticed that the requirements were very basic, and there was not too much information on their website. I am also curious if anyone had any insight on the job potential and marketability of the degree, if I were to graduate with a PhD from St. Mary's. I would like to go back and work in the United States, but I am open to working in Canada. I am either open to working at another university or to go back to the business world working as a consultant. Any advice would be great, because I do not know anything about the Canadian education system. Thanks
