  1. :]:] I totally understand wanting to know even though you're feeling fairly confident in your decision. I've felt pretty confident for a long time in where I was going, I heard pretty earlier on about my acceptance to where I wanted to go but I still really wanted to hear from the other places and feel like I was making an informed decision. Taryn rocks, 100% recommend working with her. I think you'll definitely get a lot out of being at Kent and can't recommend it enough.
  2. Yeah, I was accepted with full funding to my top choice, so I'm not super worried about what was happening with them. I didn't respond yet, though I plan to email sometime eventually to let them know I've committed elsewhere-it doesn't seem like it will matter, thoug.
  3. I also got this news. It feels super late in the game, I bet they'll be dealing with a lot of people having already accepted offers and will be accepting a few people off the waitlist.
  4. Congrats!! Also, I'll be hosting you on Tuesday for a bit when you visit.
  5. I was told by some of the faculty where I am that the US News lists are basically comprised from surveys they send to the directors and deans and whatnot and essentially they're asked to rank the schools, but the rankings mostly just end up being influenced by what schools those people filling the surveys out have heard of or are hearing buzz about. So there's some basis of truth-a good school is going to be generating buzz-but also schools like Columbia and Yale are likely always going to be on them because they're well known and they have mucho money and rep so they're always going to be able to be recruiting and hiring 'top most amazing artists 4 ever' to teach, but other schools with just as rewarding and intensive programs are left off because they're not as universally well known. Essentially they're an okay place to start, but make sure you're on the lookout for schools that are fitting to you personally, look at who is there, what is happening and what is available to you. Obviously what you're experiencing with Northwestern is a reflection of that.
  6. What they offered me was something like 6 credits of tuition remission and a $3000 stipend (as part of an assistantship that required 7 hours/week of work) And then they also offered me a merit scholarship of something around $6000. I can't remember totally but I think you have to have 9 credits a semester to get done there on time? It was a really generous and I was a little bummed and worried I made the wrong decision for awhile, but I'm feeling much better now. In comparison this year I've been so far offered 2 full GA ships (that cover full time attendance, so around 12 credits/semester and 6 credits in summer) one includes full health coverage and the other covers 60% of the healthcare cost and then one is a $15,000 stipend and the other is $11000 stipend + $3000 fellowship. So I'm really glad I waited and I am really excited about where I've applied this year.
  7. I applied and was accepted to American U last year and was really excited about it. I ended up with a fair amount of funding, but since it's a private school with private school levels of tuition I still would have had to at least take out full loan amounts in order to attend and probably work at least part time on top of the assistantship they awarded me to live there so I opted out of it. DC is amazing, though, and I think I would have been really happy there, it just wasn't right for me financially.
  8. I know someone who's been accepted into Syracuse in print, but I don't know about any of the others
  9. I was in a similar situation last year and I decided to wait, build my portfolio and get some teaching experience and this time around I've been accepted into some of my top programs with full GAships and stipends, so it's definitely worth taking the time instead of going somewhere you will be miserable for whatever reason.
  10. That is essentially what my discussion was as well! He told me the same thing about funding and we chatted a bit about SGCI. We talked a little bit about the general opportunities for funding and stuff too. He did say that almost anyone who's interested can get funded opportunities like GAships and stuff, which is excellent. He was really nice and answered all my questions. Indiana University is pretty much my top choice! They're just figuring out funding and I'm also really, really interested in Tulane and working with Teresa Cole, so if I get into both I'll have a really hard decision to make. I met Tracy (as well as Ellie Honl and Brandon Gunn) at MAPC this year and they were sooooo awesome and I am really excited to work with them!! Thanks for the information too, it's always hard when you're meeting people at professional functions or in interviews because they're on their best behavior for recruiting reasons and stuff, so I'm glad she has a good rep beyond that (though I never would have suspected otherwise based on my experience with her!)
  11. U of Montana called me yesterday evening! Their director called me around 6pm my time so 4 there, I hope you heard too!
  12. I applied in printmaking, but I've posted similar inquiries with very little response. cecily.brooke is also applying in printmaking.
  13. Yeah, I probably won't call anywhere unless I want to be absolutely sure before I make my final decision.
  14. awww :[ I haven't heard from anyone this week but them and I am so anxious!!
