  1. I'm sorry to hear the luck you've been having. I think it's very odd that you haven't had success. One of my professors told us about a previous student who had a great GPA and GRE, extracurriculars and everything else, and did not get into a single one of her many schools. She called each school and finally someone told her that there was a line in her personal statement that didn't come off well. Have you considered that there is something somewhere in your application that is not coming off how you intended? Maybe you should have a few people look it over. Either way, I hope you get off of a wait list!! And if even if you don't, don't despair! I'm going back to school at 26 and find that having real work experience is helpful.
  2. Thank you Gorgatron and DeafAudi! I'm really glad to hear you say that because yesterday Rush offered a scholarship to bring down the cost, but in the end I decided to go with UT Dallas because of the AuD/PhD. I am interested in research and I like that they give you the option in the second year to declare that you want to do the dual track so that way you make sure it's what you really want, and have your research interests more squared away. I was also pretty concerned that my background would cause me to struggle in the program, being out of field. I talked to a few of the faculty members and they assured me the classes I've taken this year would be more than enough. I'm going to assume they would not tell me that if they didn't mean it since it would be worse for me to start and then drop the program. Congrats on your choice DeafAudi! Gorgatron - Have you made a decision yet?
  3. I switched from a PC to a Macbook Air about a year ago. I somehow destroyed PC's every few years as well. For the first week I was super annoyed because I had no idea how to do anything I was used to doing. Now I absolutely love my macbook air. I would highly highly recommend it. I never used to take my PC laptops anywhere because they were bulky and the battery always died. I take this thing everywhere. I could throw it like a frisbee it's so light and thin! I have microsoft office suite for mac and it works perfectly. I don't have cable and watch all of my TV/movies on here. People on this forum are talking about how it doesn't have an ethernet port…I didn't even realize that until I read this thread lol. I guess I haven't had a need for it in the past year. You'll learn fast and love it.
  4. Anyone accepted an offer yet? What led you to your choice? For those of us still narrowing it down, what has it come down to for you? Anyone still waiting to hear back from a school at this point? I have narrowed it down to 4 schools and am hoping to get off a wait list for one school. Assuming I do not get off the wait list, my front runner is UT Dallas. While I absolutely loved the Chicago schools and the idea of attending an "elite" private school, I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that taking out an extra 40-50 thousand dollars in loans is not a smart idea. UT-Dallas is a top program that gives ALL AuD students in-state tuition, which was a welcome surprise to me!! They also offer all students a 1000 dollar scholarship the first year, AND a job in the department about 10 hours a week either in a research lab, or they teach you to be a tech in the hearing aid clinic. Turning this down would be crazy right??
  5. They said they would send out an email with scholarship info separate from the one with the loans, but I did not receive anything :-/ I emailed tonight to ask if everything was already sent out. The faculty there seem really great and responsive so hopefully I hear back soon. I also didn't get an email with loan stuff but I submitted the institutional aid form just a few days ago. It's so hard to choose between these super expensive programs when schools like UT-Dallas, Arizona, and San Diego are literally 40K less. I'm sure you have the same hard decisions!
  6. Yes, I did. They really put on a fantastic open house. They had a ton of faculty members meet with us to tell us about specific parts of the program, and a bunch of students as well. They gave us tours of the labs, the clinic, and other areas in the program. Everything seemed really nice, new, and impressive. We had a great lunch where we were joined by even more faculty and students. Everyone was so nice and helpful. At the end of the day, those who were interested went to look at the student apartments right across the street where many of the 1st years and some of the 2nd years live. They had studios, one bedrooms, and two bedrooms. They were all much larger and WAY less than half the cost of my converted one bedroom in NYC last year! Overall it was a great day and great program. I'm still waiting to hear about any funding which would heavily influence my decision. Let me know if you have any specific questions! One thing that I really like about the program is that you get a much more diverse range of clinical experiences since you are at a hospital in the middle of Chicago. I visited Northwestern the day before and they only see a handful of patients per day in the entire clinic. Rush offers everything in the scope of Audiology. The only thing they do not do, yet, is pediatric cochlear implants.
  7. In no particular order: 1)big bang theory (HATE this and although I try not to judge people who think this is funny/witty…I can't help it :-/ ) 2)the majority of modern rap music (I wanna be a billionaire so freakin bad…really? that is a song?) 3)vera bradley (just not my style) 4)dogs that jump all over me (you're cute but just ripped a hole in my new leggings thanks) 5)the phrase YOLO 6)snapchat 7)beyonce 8)super sweet drinks in those giant souvenir cups like the hurricane in new orleans or daiquiris. (they make me queasy)
  8. I'm going to Rush preview day for audiology and I'm bringing my mom
  9. Hey AuDBall, I hope you are right and I like Northwestern as much as you did! I'm excited to learn more about the program. I think I'm going to sit in on one of Dr. Riley's classes. Did you do that? I didn't receive the acceptance call from WashU like others did today so I am pretty bummed out and feeling down. I know I should be grateful to be accepted to so many schools, but WashU was my first choice and the one I really fell in love with after visiting. I thought it was the perfect fit. I am hoping I feel the same way after I visit Northwestern next week and all will be better
  10. These are all hilarious and I think reading them and laughing is actually helping with the stress levels! Thanks for sharing guys and keep em coming!
  11. I also don't really have a top choice yet because I haven't seen them all. So far of the schools I've seen I like the program at WashU the best. The program at Chapel Hill was impressive as well but I wasn't expecting such a tiny southern college town(being in Tallahassee is already tough for me!) and it is also very pediatric focused. Also they don't require a research project, and I definitely want to do research. In the next couple weeks I'm visiting Northwestern, Rush, and UT Dallas. I might make plans to visit Northeastern and SDSU. So everything could change! I was on the fence about whether to go for the Aud or Phd. Did you know from the beginning you wanted to do both?
  12. OMG Lisa19 and Shuca both of your dreams made me seriously laugh out loud!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
  13. Has anyone else been having crazy dreams revolving around grad school? Here are my latest and craziest: One of my top schools sends me a decision in the mail. Except it's a scratch off like a lottery ticket. I scratch off an entire sheet of paper using a penny just to find one word - rejection! I go to an interview at one of the schools and right before the interview another applicant gives me a piece of gum. During the interview the gum grows in size so that everything I say is mumbled and I have to apologize, get up, and spit it out. The interviewer tells me chewing gum automatically disqualifies me and to go home! Is it just me? Should I seek help LOL.
  14. Thanks deciBelle, you were right! Congrats to you too!!
  15. Hey Intothevertigo! It was good, very relaxed. I see we are applying to a lot of the same schools. Do you have a top choice?
