i lived in columbia housing for 2 years while doing my masters. I was placed in a very large unfurnished apartment with one other student who was in the same program as me. Our living room was HUGE (larger than anything i've seen in nyc), each had our own bedroom which fit a full size bed, dresser, desk and chair, and also had a closet. Lived 1 block away from school and paid around $600/month, which is probably impossible outside of Columbia housing. I was initially placed in a furnished apartment with 4 other roommates, however Columbia was nice enough to let me switch (probably because I checked off on the application wanting to live with people of the same gender and was placed in a mix). I think I preferred bringing my own furniture to the standard that I would have received (I'm assuming a twin extra long bed).
