Hello All, This forum has been great to me, so I wanted to give back a little to anyone that is in a similar situation. I am a current Masters student that was suppose to have graduated this semester after two years in my program. My advisor has been bullying me for the past 7 months and continuously changed their mind on my thesis... Loving it one minute and despising it the next. I had a thesis defense date set and then two weeks before I was to defend, it was canceled. I don't want to go into too much detail, but you get the idea. At this point I have all levels of administration involved with the situation. However, the bylaws of the school state that I am not able to choose a new advisor and take my research/results with me. Make a very long story short, the system has failed and I will not be graduating with my thesis. For those students that have a questionable relationship with their advisor, please be careful. I was completely pushed out of my program and now all of my data is now my advisors. I can guarantee my advisor will publish the data within the next 6 months. Do not let one person determine your value and remember you are absolutely not alone. Bullying, retribution, intimidation and stealing data is common in academics and try to get everything in writing to protect yourself. I am moving on to a PHD program and looking forward to deleting this awful experience from my life. Good luck to those in similar situations. Please learn something from me and protect yourself.

I just got accepted into the MEAS department! So excited! Is anyone in the department or know anything about it??

Hello, I was accepted to the NCSU MEAS department and I was wondering if anyone could give me their 2 cents on the program. I am an ecologist and am most likely going to attend here.... but everyone seems to be talking about Duke or UNC. What is the school like? Is the program a second-class citizen to Duke and UNC (so says my current advisor... I do not know how true this is)? I am not from the area- so any advice would be super helpful Thank you!

Hi! I am STILL waiting on these schools. Some of them I called and they said financial decisions are/were still being made. Has anyone heard anything??? URI biology BU BUMP program ECU biology NIU biology UMB Biology

Just got rejected from my top choice. Totally bummed.

I could not agree more. I actually called all of my schools today (waiting on FIVE) and they are all still making their decisions. And one actual told me I probs won't hear until mid-April (UMASS B ). I think it's slightly unnerving and I swear I am seeing more gray hair.

What schools are you guys waiting for?? I'm still waiting for UCSC, BU and URI. I don't have that much hope since it's so late. Has anyone else heard from them?

Katsharki3, this might be a longshot and I do not know which island you are on...but... why don't you stop in to see a few professors at UHM or UHH and ask them about their lab opening or if they have any collaborators that have openings. Asking in person and building that relationship is 1000 times better than an email. You are in a great spot for shark research and I am sure that if you do not get accepted this go around then you could work with NOAA or a similar organization in Hawaii and definitely get in next year! As a side note, I am completely envious of you being in Hawaii! I lived 10 mins away from UH-M for a bit in 2012 and absolutely loved it. I cannot wait to go back!

I understand katsharki3! But you will be okay!! I do not have much in terms of advice, since I am in the same boat as you, but maybe check Texas A&M biology board for last minute phd postings?? One way or another, good luck!!

Does anyone know of a "rolling-admission" phd in biology or ecology? I am hoping to hear back from places soon and I am trying to come up with a plan B in case I am rejected from each university. Thanks!

wizzyfizzy I could not agree more. Has anyone heard anything from their PI from: URI/ UCSC/ UMASS B?? I am finding it impossible to work on my Masters thesis revisions when I am so anxious about these decisions!!

Has anyone heard anything from EEB UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, URI (bio) or Boston U (bio)? Interviews? Acceptance? I am going crazy over here! I might email my potential PI just to check in next week....

Hello! I have been in contact with the faculty at several schools and submitted my PHD applications (see schools below)... Now what?! Should I continue to email the potential advisors or just wait it out? Does anyone know if the following schools have recruitment dates or did anyone get in and have a basic timeline?
