  1. I also got an interview at JHU BME. It's strange, they're doing a Skype interview first and then the visit weekend. I'm international so maybe that's why....
  2. For Rockefeller U interview, anyone know if we need to send the grad office an official sealed transcript? Doesn't appear to say anywhere in fedex package, but seems to be standard practice at other programs.
  3. ^sorry to reiterate, but just wondering whether anyone has heard anything from Caltech way?
  4. I'm guessing they're either already out or their sending it next early week. It's also possible that they might send out after the break. Looks like in past years their interviews were also sent first week of Jan.
  5. Hmmm....do you think I'll get auto-chopped off with a 159 in QR? (annoying because I was scoring in the mid-160s on ManhPr practice) I'm applying to top 10 systems bio, but more on the genomic engineering/design side, less on the pure mathematical modelling. That being said, I am a co-author on three new bioinformatic platforms that are being published in fairly high-level journals. Thoughts?
  6. Eh...what the heck, I'll throw my hat in. Undergrad Institution: Top Canadian research university Major(s): Integrated Biomedical Sciences (Biochem/Cell Bio/Mol bio) Overall GPA: A Type of Student: international GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q:159 (74%) - shameful I know :S V:170 (99%) W: 6 (99%) Research Experience: 5 years across 4 different fields: stem cells and cancer, molecular mammalian epigenetics, microbial biochemistry/genetic bioinformatics/drug design, and analytical chemical biology. Papers: 4 confirmed - 1 published first author (mid-tier journal), 1 in review (NAR) (part of a team of co-authors), 2 TBS this month to PNAS (part of a team of co-authors). Two more first author in the pipeline for February. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Couple of research fellowships, scholarship here and there ECs: one or two unique biggies grad school might find interesting Achilles Heel: One small (really) bad course grade in 1st year besmirching transcript due to illness, but reference countering it. Applying to Where: Harvard SysBio MIT Bio/Bioeng Stanford SysBio Caltech Bio Rockefeller John Hopkins Bioeng UCSD Bioeng Boston U MCBB UofT SysBio/Bioeng
  7. For anybody relatively in the know with regards to MIT, am I SOL for MIT Bioengineering with a GRE V:163,Q:159;AW:5.5? They say to expect cutoffs 'around' 160 for QR. I'm fine for the other two. Again for anybody in the know, does MIT do a hard GRE cutoff, then look at your app, or do they review your app in full and then consider GRE? If it makes a difference, I am an author on four papers (one published, one accepted, two submitted) to medium-high level journals (PNAS, NCB, NAR), with one specifically first author and the rest as 2nd co-author, and have 5.5 years research experience across 4 fields. GPA is difficult to translate at my school, but essentially in 'A' band. Thanks!
