  1. As briefinterviews mentions above, the Bay is stereotypically full of pretentious, crunchy granola hipsters and gentrifying techies. SoCal is all superficiality, pollution, and traffic. In reality, both places have great people and charm. The nature is nicer up here, the beaches are better down there. I can only really speak on the Bay and I like it for its social consciousness, art, food, and mild weather. I've enjoyed SoCal every time I visited though. As long you find the right people and build a community around you that you like, either place is fine because the west coast is the best coast, etc etc hahaha.
  2. Hi! I'm partial to Berkeley because I loved it as my undergrad school and feel like I'm a much better fit to the community/culture here than SoCal. I'd much rather stay in the Bay Area and think the program is better overall. Also heard about the controversy with the professor recently, but as others mentioned on the thread the students aren't afraid to call out problematic, i.e. privileged racist, bullshit. Idk if UCLA has similar events but we just had the 30th Empowering Women of Color Conference here put together by the graduate student assembly. I'm just really in love with Berkeley
  3. Just got the email saying they'll let us know by 3/16. Of course I had a mini heart attack before I opened the email thinking it was a decision. Back to developing ulcers...
  4. Yea, guess we'll wait and see. Side note: HOW DID I DO THIS AGAIN WITH FAFSA LAST NIGHT?? Like how and why are California deadlines not on PST? Ughhhhhh -______________-
  5. Besides the federal loans being offered, are there any grants given to MSW students at these two schools? I know UCLA offers fellowships for all graduate departments, but how much do MSW students tend to receive? Does Berkeley offer fellowships or grants to non-Title IV-E applicants? What if you missed the March 2 FAFSA deadline - are you doomed? So many questions.
  6. Did you find out about this, because I did the exact same thing and they never replied to me either.
  7. I haven't, but I'm irrationally afraid to so I'm just here hands wringing and stomach roiling
  8. When do people typically hear back from UC Berkeley?
  9. Also just got my acceptance email! The website may not be updated for up to 10 business days or so. Congrats to everyone who got in, love and light and better prospects to those who didn't!
  10. Just glad it's over and I can resurface in society again. Let's all pretend the wait isn't going to be stressful? *Cookies and good vibes for everyone*
  11. Thank you! I also just saw this on a different page: Please Note: You do not need to complete this form if you applied for graduate admissions online and completed the fellowship section. Delirious panic mode makes me delirious and panicked. Next problem: I didn't order my transcripts because the other school I applied to (Berkeley) only required we upload the unofficial ones and submit the official ones IF we're accepted (which is the wise and budget-friendly thing to do), but alas UCLA was not so kind now I have to pay a visit to my undergrad, get my transcript and mail it in (it just has to be post-marked by the 15th right??)
  12. "For all of the above awards submit the Fellowship Application for Entering Graduate Students directly to your prospective department by December 15 or by the department's deadline for admissions. Consult your department for exceptions." I assumed we could print, fill out, and upload the form, but now I don't see that option. Do we actually have to mail it in? O_O
  13. Are you all applying for fellowships? I want to be lazy and take the extra month until the Jan 15 deadline, but it's silly to pass up free money so I'm trying to hustle and submit tomorrow. Also why are the Fall 2015 MSW forums so quiet? Where are all our potential cohorts??
  14. Anyone know if our answer to the analytical question has to be directly related to the concentration we're applying to, i.e. clinical intervention if we're applying to CMH, or can it be a more structural/policy intervention?
