  1. Was it just me or did UCLA seem super disorganized, bordering on chaotic? I interviewed IMMP second weekend and there weren't any immunologists to interview with. Not a single person from my list of requested faculty. The IMMP home area director was super blunt about everything as well, asking specifically what schools I interviewed at and which ones I had offers from. I got the impression he wanted to see all my cards on the table, but keep his close to his vest.
  2. One of the schools I'm seriously considering has stated that they can only keep my position until March 3rd. My question is, how is that possible when the universal deadline is April 15th? Can they actually revoke an offer at any arbitrary date? I'd like to think that they aren't trying to take advantage of any confusion over the "actual" deadline to accept an offer. They're also playing the guilt card by reminding me of the others they'll be able to offer if I decline. The thing is, I'm seriously considering this program, but this pressure is turning me off, and is something I haven't experienced from other programs. I also have no intention of waiting till the actual deadline to decide, but the beginning of March is absolutely ridiculous. Any thoughts you guys have would be appreciated.
  3. Got a call yesterday that I was admitted to University of Washington Immunology! This was by far the best (if you value rankings and reputation) school that I interviewed at. I loved Seattle, the people were awesome, and the facilities blew everything else I've seen out of the water. I'm a little hesitant though that the faculty don't align perfectly with my interests. I have a more applied immunology background, and they're almost exclusively basic immunology. What do you guys think? Do faculty have to be doing exactly what you think you want to do, or are you open to researching new areas within your general field of interest if the faculty/school is great? I'm trying not to sabotage this for myself, since there are a mountain of pros and only one con.
